Amy Payne

Associate Attorney

Meet Amy Payne, a seasoned attorney with deep roots in Maryland. Born and raised in the town of Mount Airy, Amy has always held a profound connection to the people and communities of our state. Her personal experiences, coupled with her extensive legal background, uniquely position her to understand and cater to the needs of her clients.

Amy’s journey in law began with a solid educational foundation. She pursued her undergraduate studies at Loyola College, Maryland, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology. Her passion for law led her to Southern Methodist School of Law in Dallas, graduating in May 1999.

While in law school, Amy was privileged to intern with The Honorable Jorge A. Solis at the US District Court for the Northern District of Texas. This invaluable experience gave her a deeper insight into the intricacies of the legal system and shaped her approach to her career.

Following graduation, Amy dedicated a decade of her career to State Farm Mutual Insurance Companies in their Claim Litigation Division. It was here that she honed her skills as a litigator, trying an impressive 78 Jury trials and 390 Bench Trials to verdict. Her tenure at the firm of H. Barritt Peterson, Jr. & Associates, as part of the Corporate Law Department of State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company, equipped her with a wealth of experience that she brings to every case.

As a testament to her commitment to the legal profession and her continuous pursuit of excellence, Amy is a proud member of the Maryland State Bar Association. She's also been recognized as a member of Phi Delta Phi, an honorary legal fraternity, marking her outstanding contributions and dedication to the world of law.

ABOUT ME

People Often Ask...

  • How would you describe your approach when getting to know a client?
"Understanding the profound nature of estate planning, I believe deeply in the power of active listening. When I meet with clients, my primary aim is to offer a compassionate ear and be a guiding hand, respecting that this is their story and their plan, not mine. Discussing matters surrounding the end of life can be emotionally charged and immensely challenging for many. Thus, my mission is to create an environment of trust where clients feel empowered to articulate their desires without hesitation. While it's comforting to assume that our loved ones inherently understand our wishes, life has taught us that it's not always the case. By helping clients craft a detailed and personalized plan, I aim to ensure that their genuine wishes are honored, creating peace of mind for them and their families."
  • What would you say are your distinct strengths and capabilities as an estate planning attorney?
"At the heart of my profession, I believe that being an exceptional listener is paramount. Discussing the intricacies of end-of-life planning can be immensely challenging for many, given the sensitive nature of the subject. Recognizing this, I make it my priority to cultivate an environment where clients feel genuinely heard and understood. I take the time to deeply connect with each individual's unique story, allowing me to lead with genuine empathy and compassion. This connection not only fosters trust but also ensures that the estate plans we create are truly reflective of each client's personal wishes and values."

What I Do For Fun...

  • Outside work, I value time with family and friends and enjoy my book club's lively discussions.
I truly love experimenting in the kitchen. For me, cooking is about creating memories and connections as much as it is about the food.

Very professional, great fact finding to facilitate prompt and accurate resolution to the issues. Stouffer Legal has a very welcoming atmosphere.
