Social Security Is Here to Stay

A little education can ease your mind on the future of Social Security.

President Franklin D. Roosevelt knew Social Security would have its opponents through the years and purposely made it difficult to remove. And, as the Albuquerque Journal points out in “Social Security likely here to stay, so get educated” the program is not going away anytime soon.

In fact, both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump have pledged not to cut benefits or increase the retirement age as part of their Presidential campaigns.

Roosevelt insisted on measures that would make it hard to eliminate using such tactics as not making it subject to means testing. He felt it was important to make as many people as possible consider Social Security as a right rather than charity.

What this means is that, despite warnings about the future of the program and the Social Security trust fund running out of money, you should plan as if the program will be around when you are ready to draw benefits. It is important to educate yourself about how benefits work and when you should start receiving them.

It is important to know your options and perhaps meet with an elder law attorney. Call (443) 470-3599 today and schedule a consultation with Maryland Attorney Britt L. Stouffer to learn more about Estate or Elder Law and how she can help you.
