Environmentally Friendly Burial Options

August 14, 2019

Most environmentally conscious people live each daytrying to make better decisions to improve our environment. Now we can alsomake good choices for the environment after we die as well. A common burial isan environmentally costly endeavor. A new trend referred to as a green burialis quickly catching on and gaining momentum.   A green burial utilizes methods andmaterials that decrease the impact on the environment.

Part of the estate planning process is to educate yourselfon burial options and make those known to those left behind to execute for you.

There are many new advances in burial options that arealso good for the environment. A few of these burial options include:

  • Woven, cardboard or simple wood caskets nowcome in a variety of styles. These are considered biodegradable for burial andcan also be used for cremation.
  • Biodegradable urns with seeds or treesaplings above the urn. They come with organic material that helps to minimizethe cremated material so that the tree will grow above the urn as the urn biodegrades.
  • Floating urns that eventually dissolve inwater.
